About the Project

AgiLe Integrated Airspace System (ALIAS) is an innovative and ambitious project that brings together eight technology companies to demonstrate a scalable and cohesive airspace system for the future. The system will incorporate drones, air taxis, and crewed aircraft operating in unison to deliver economic and societal benefit for the UK.

Please Note: Funding available is the grant value awarded by Innovate UK.

Project Activities

During the initial stages of the project, partners integrated individual technologies, including flight testing of sub-systems, to incrementally build a regional airspace system. The project will culminate with the deployment of the ALIAS system to the Channel Islands, an ideal location for test and evaluation of the regional airspace system that could be replicated across the UK. The deployment will include drones performing maritime and public health missions, as well as a helicopter acting as an air-taxi service alongside regularly scheduled crewed aircraft operations at local airports.

Benefits

ALIAS aims to deliver economic, social, and environmental benefits. Economic benefits will be delivered primarily through enabling drone and Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) operations which will in turn deliver local jobs and economic growth. Through the development of a flexible, regional approach to uncrewed aircraft systems traffic management (UTM), the project aims to deliver social benefits by providing better access to rural and remote areas of the UK. Finally, environmental benefits will be unlocked through low-emissions aircraft and agile airspace management that will minimise noise pollution.
