ReMake Glasgow: creating the leading circular manufacturing hub
ReMake Glasgow, based at the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland, aims to make Glasgow a leader in circular manufacturing by supporting reuse, refurbishment, and repair of aerospace parts. It promotes resource efficiency, reduces waste, and invests in skills for a sustainable economy.
Project Overview
Based out of the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS), which is operated by the University of Strathclyde, ReMake Glasgow is a groundbreaking project designed to transform Glasgow into a global leader in circular manufacturing. It will provide the skills and technologies needed to support ambitious manufacturers of all sizes to adopt circularity and extend the life of products and parts, promoting resource efficiency and waste reduction.
The project has seen the creation of a first-of-its-kind national Remake hub within the flagship NMIS building next to Glasgow Airport. The hub is advancing sustainable manufacturing by supporting reusing, refurbishing, and repairing parts and products instead of buying/making them new – saving up to 99% carbon emissions.
The project led by University of Strathclyde is developing processes to create the necessary infrastructure, such as recycling facilities and repair hubs, to support circular manufacturing and investing in training and education to develop the workforce needed for a circular economy.
Partners include Boeing, BA Maintenance Glasgow, SSE renewables, Baker Hughes Howden and ATS Global.
