A new energy model rooted in local ownership and lower bills for Gwynedd.
Gwynedd includes areas where chronic fuel poverty, hard-to-treat homes and limited career opportunities combine to create serious challenges for local people. To tackle this, the council and partners are developing a new model for local energy, designed and owned by the community.
Together with Energy Local, Cwmni Cymunedol Bro Ffestiniog and Partneriaeth Ogwen, Gwynedd Council is creating Community Energy Services Companies (CESCos). By combining heat, power and transport under one organisation with multiple income streams, these locally led companies lower costs, reduce risk and improve access to funding.
The first CESCo is launching in Tanygrisau, starting with one street. Five more are in development, supported by a new umbrella body to coordinate delivery and unlock investment across the wider region. The goal is to cut emissions, reduce bills by 20% and keep more value in the local economy.
