How a pilot on the Isle of Wight is helping councils avoid reinventing the wheel on sustainable services
On the Isle of Wight, councils and partners are tackling a challenge faced across the UK: the risk of each authority having to solve the same problems alone.
Led by Isle of Wight Council with Future Isle of Wight CIC, Nquiringminds and ERMC Ltd, the team created a digital platform to help parish councils share tools, governance templates and lessons from real experience. This is especially valuable for smaller or more rural authorities, which are often less connected to wider sources of advice and support.
From retrofit engagement to data standards, the platform is already improving decision making. Trusted local networks, early data governance and clear communication all proved essential. The next step is helping more councils use the platform, avoid duplication and improve public services through practical, joined-up climate action.
