Digital therapeutics for improving mental health in menopause
Becky Cotton is a co-founder of Lumino, a digital therapeutic start-up with a mission to create better mental health for everyone. With over 15 years of experience in healthcare, Becky has a deep understanding of the industry. She previously worked as the Director of Mental Health Policy at the NHS Confederation and was the chair of the UK’s Mental Health Policy Group. She is also a Churchill Fellow and a mentor on the NHS Clinical Entrepreneur Programme.
One of Lumino’s main goals is to scale up access to evidence-based treatment and support for millions of people across the UK, EU, and North America. They’ve set the ball rolling by developing their first product, Seren, providing personalised cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) to help combat a range of menopause-related symptoms, including stress, anxiety, hot flushes, and sleep problems.
“One in 10 women will leave their job because of the impact of mental health-related menopause symptoms,” explains Becky. “Our product is low-cost and convenient, making it accessible to those who may not have access to traditional forms of treatment, or may not want to go down the route of hormone replacement.”
Becky is passionate about increasing the number of women founding companies and achieving success. She believes that the gender gap in entrepreneurship is not only a waste of women talent but also bad for the economy as a whole. She is proud to be part of a community of women founders and encourages others to believe in the strength of their ideas and to “find their tribe”.
