Digital therapeutics for accessible gynaecological care
Dr Dupe Burgess, founder of Bloomful, is transforming women’s healthcare through digital therapeutic support for gynaecological conditions. Her journey from NHS doctor to healthtech innovator was shaped by seven years of clinical experience, during which she observed deep-rooted healthcare inequities, and later honed strategic expertise at Boston Consulting Group.
Women face lifelong gynaecological challenges that significantly affect their wellbeing, work, and quality of life. Optimal care often demands holistic support, which remains expensive and inaccessible for many. Bloomful’s mobile app tackles this issue with intelligent, data-driven coaching
that delivers personalised and clinically validated therapies. Early feasibility studies have shown improved outcomes, and the technology is now undergoing trials in GP surgeries across the UK.
“Our vision is to help women globally lead healthier, fuller lives by making evidence-based gynaecological health support and knowledge available to all women,” says Dupe.
Her achievements include the KPMG Black Entrepreneur Award, Google Black Founders Fund, and MSDUK Innovation Champion. She has secured funding from Google, Innovate UK, and the National Institute of Health and Care Research, supporting the government’s 10-year Women’s Health Strategy for England.
“Winning the Women in Innovation Award is truly a highlight of my career,” says Dupe. “This award comes at an important time for Bloomful: we are in deep product development and testing, and it will play a significant role in taking our product to the next level.”
“The biggest barriers have been building a startup, and raising investment, as a solo founder and mother to small children,” Dupe reflects. “I’ve overcome this by actively working on my mindset, cultivating resilience and grit, and finding ways to keep going even when it feels challenging.”
Her advice to aspiring women innovators? “Know your values and principles, and make sure everything you do aligns with them. This acts as a compass when decisions get tough or things feel uncertain.”
