Transforming health and social care training through technology

Dr Emma Williamson is the founder of aneemo, a health and social care training platform that delivers expert-led, video-based CPD training to help staff support people experiencing multiple disadvantages. She was inspired to launch aneemo in 2018 after 20 years of experience as a Clinical Psychologist and in teaching where she saw firsthand the need for better staff training in this area.

Brain injury affects 50% of homeless individuals and 60% of the prison population, yet healthcare staff lack adequate specialist training. Through aneemo’s Learning Management System platform, professionals can access targeted training to better understand and support people with brain injuries and complex needs, improving health outcomes and service access.

“Our vision for the future is for an inclusive society where everyone has equal access to housing, health and social care,” says Emma.

Her achievements include recognition on the NatWest Pioneer’s Post WISE 100 List 2024 for leading women in social enterprise, backing from the Mayor of London’s Rough Sleeping Innovation grant, and multiple awards for her NHS services addressing homelessness and health inequalities.

“I am honoured to be selected as one of the 2024 Women in Innovation awardees,” says Emma. “Representing female leaders and founders is important and something I have always strived to do. The award will enable us to develop Extended Reality features in our platform, bringing state-of-the-art training technology to health and social care staff.”

“Gaining standing as a female founder of an EdTech company has been a growth area for me,” Emma reflects. “I’ve been supported and inspired by smart, powerful female mentors and benefited from being part of a Women in Impact female founder accelerator programme.”

Her advice for aspiring women innovators? “Be bold, be brave and don’t hold back from showing your brilliance!”
