Bridging the talent gap in startup innovation

Judy Leung is CEO of Manchester-based Sweqlink, an innovative platform that bridges the investment funding gap between visionary entrepreneurs and the talent they need to bring their innovations to life. With over two decades of digital marketing and project management expertise, Judy is focused on democratising access to talent for startups and investment opportunities for skilled individuals.

Underserved founders, especially women and minority entrepreneurs, often struggle to secure investment and access expertise. Sweqlink’s platform offers a powerful solution by enabling skilled professionals to invest their expertise in exchange for equity. This approach removes financial barriers while promoting transparency and education in sweat equity arrangements.

“We envisage a future where every entrepreneur with a groundbreaking idea can find the perfect team to bring their vision to life, and every skilled professional has the opportunity to invest their talents in meaningful and fruitful projects,” says Judy.

Lots of people all putting their hands in the middle

Her achievements include recognition in the NatWest Entrepreneurs Accelerator programme and selection for the Foundervine WeWork Diverse Founders Programme 2024. She has also served as a judge and mentor for the LSE Generation Accelerator Programme.

“I feel an immense sense of pride, not just for myself, but for my incredible team,” says Judy of winning the Women in Innovation Award. “Such validation is crucial for building credibility, gaining trust, and driving our business forward.”

“The biggest barrier I’ve had to overcome is being more visible in the male-dominated tech startup and private equity space,” Judy reflects. “Finding communities of other female entrepreneurs has been key to this as well as upskilling in social media marketing and working with a public speaking coach.”

Her advice to aspiring innovators? “Seek out mentors and communities of other women going through similar challenges. Don’t build in a silo – having a support network will make all the difference to your journey.”
