Sojin Lee is the founder of London-based Olive AI Limited, which is developing innovative AI-powered educational tools. With extensive global experience across Asia and the Americas before settling in the UK, her journey from chartered accountant to EdTech entrepreneur has been driven by a mission to make high-quality education more accessible and equitable. Education faces significant challenges, with teacher shortages, inequitable access, and high tutoring costs. Olive AI’s app addresses these issues by automating practice question creation and providing AI-powered tutoring support, reducing teacher workload while offering students immediate, personalised feedback. The solution delivers up to 93% cost savings compared to private tutoring, making quality education more accessible and sustainable by reducing the need for physical resources.
“My mission is to leverage AI to create high-quality and accessible learning opportunities, empowering both teachers and students to reach their full potential while addressing the challenges of overwork, fairness, and cost of education,” says Sojin.
Her achievements include being named a Top 3 Finalist by the Association of Test Publishers, securing European Union funding for AI development in essay scoring, and winning the Discovery Award as a Longitude Prize on Dementia semi-finalist. Her work has been published in leading AI conferences and journals.
“Being a Women in Innovation Award winner is an honour,” says Sojin. “It reinforces my passion for driving innovation, particularly in the tech and education sectors, and motivates me to continue pushing exciting projects in the EdTech space.”
“I would love to see more women stepping into entrepreneurship and leveraging their expertise and passions,” Sojin reflects. “It’s encouraging to see women making an impact in the tech and innovation sectors. I believe there is significant potential for greater representation and collaboration.”
Her advice to aspiring women innovators? “Stay true to your passion, seek growth opportunities, and be persistent.”
