Trilateral partnerships to drive innovation in climate-smart agriculture
Innovate UK has awarded funding to 30 projects promoting climate-smart agriculture for sustainable food production systems. The projects are all collaborations between the UK, Brazil and Ghana or Nigeria.

Through the Innovate UK Climate-Smart Agriculture Partnership: UK-Brazil-Africa, the projects will support collaborations and enable knowledge sharing between the UK, Brazil, Ghana and Nigeria to develop technologies and practices that promote climate-smart agriculture in Ghana and Nigeria.
Innovation Awards and Travel Grants will accelerate the testing and development of technologies and practices that promote climate-smart agriculture for sustainable food production systems.
The 17 Innovation Awards will deliver trilateral, collaborative innovation projects between the UK, Brazil and Ghana or Nigeria. Furthermore, the 13 Travel Grants will support partners from two different countries to travel to a third country to explore ideas and identify collaborators for future trilateral projects. Projects are focused on crop, livestock and aquaculture solutions, including:
- Boosting sustainable agriculture by strengthening livestock resilience and through climate proofing food production.
- Cassava disease prevention and pest management in maize farming.
- Using new monitoring technologies to enhance farm productivity.
- Adopting modular fish hatchery innovations.
- Deploying new tools to promote dynamic agroforestry transition.
- Optimising biochar for soil fertility improvement.
The Climate-Smart Agriculture Partnership: UK-Brazil-Africa is funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and delivered by Innovate UK.
