Research and innovation actions

The 2026 calls for proposals will support four research and innovation action (RIA) topics aimed at developing new or improved TB drugs, supporting the prevention and management of lower respiratory tract infections, ensuring better prevention, treatment and management of HIV and its co-infections and co-morbidities, and addressing the global challenge of climate and health.

  • Global collaboration action for the development of TB drugs for therapy and chemoprophylaxis in adults and children in sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Global collaboration action for prevention and treatment of lower respiratory tract infections (LRTIs) in sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Global collaboration action towards better prevention, treatment and clinical management of HIV co-infections or co-morbidities in sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Global collaboration action on climate and health in sub-Saharan Africa.

As a means of increasing the engagement of Contributing Partners and enabling the support of large-scale clinical studies, the four RIA topics encourage the leveraging of co-funding from strategic partners through so-called ‘global collaboration actions’.

Interested consortia are invited to submit a short proposal by 4 March 2026 (first stage). Successful consortia at the first stage will be invited to submit a full proposal by 17 September 2026 (second stage).

Coordination and support actions

Additionally, two coordination and support action (CSA) call topics will support training and capacity-building activities in the areas of ethics, regulatory and pharmacovigilance, and enhance integrated research and healthcare through digital innovation and artificial intelligence.

  • Training and innovation networks for sustained capacity building related to ethics, regulatory and pharmacovigilance, and related digital regulatory platforms.
  • Enhancing integrated research and healthcare in sub-Saharan Africa through digital innovation and artificial intelligence.

CSA calls are single-stage. Consortia are invited to submit their full proposals by 31 August 2026.

  • Unless otherwise provided for in the specific call/topic conditions, only legal entities forming a consortium are eligible to participate in Horizon Europe actions provided that the consortium includes, as beneficiaries, three legal entities independent from each other and each established in a different country as follows:

    • at least one independent legal entity established in a Member State;
    • and at least two other independent legal entities, each established in different Member States or Associated Countries (this includes the UK).

    Our European team can help you find eligible partners to form a consortium.

    There may be further eligibility conditions for specific topics. Please check the Work Programme and contact our team to ensure your eligibility before applying.
