Chris Carlton
Knowledge Transfer Manager - Government Innovation
I have joined Innovate UK Business Connect as Knowledge Transfer Manager for Government Innovation from elsewhere in UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), most recently from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), with previous roles at the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) and Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).
I have extensive experience in research management and governance from various roles managing diverse research portfolios and strategically important governance bodies. This has included work on the UK’s productivity puzzle, Future of the UK and Scotland, big data, transport and most recently the nuclear fission and fusion portfolios, as well as management of a peer review body reviewing high energy physics and astronomy research proposals. I have collaborated with local government, the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, the Department for Transport, and the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, as well as formerly operating as ESRC’s lead on engagement with the civil society sector.
I will be working on government levers and innovation in the stakeholder relations team, specifically regulation, skills, All Party Parliamentary Groups, engagement with Research Councils and the Standards Challenge Fund with the British Standards Institute.
