How Net Zero collaboration is powering local growth in Derry City & Strabane
A strong pipeline of Net Zero projects can boost local business, create jobs, and make communities more resilient to climate and cost-of-living shocks. Derry City and Strabane District Council recognised that unlocking these benefits required new ways of working, and with support from Innovate UK’s Net Zero Living programme, it had the capacity to act.
The funding enabled the council to establish the Derry and Strabane Sustainability and Climate Commission, bringing together over 40 representatives from business, academia, government and community organisations. Together, they’re building the systems and shared understanding needed to get Net Zero projects off the ground.
This collaborative model is now guiding delivery of the Derry-Londonderry and Strabane City Region City Deal, the largest ever investment by the UK Government and NI Executive in the area, helping ensure the benefits reach businesses and residents alike.
